Bigbucks Spills the Beans: Real Proof Behind Every Fair-Trade Cup

Bigbucks Coffee has launched their public dashboard so customers can verify where their coffee comes from.

NEW HAVEN, CONN. — July 30, 2026 — Bigbucks Coffee announced their new fair-trade initiatives today designed to verify that its beans are fair-trade sourced, the way the company has always said they were, and purchased directly from farmers and not through unverified suppliers. This announcement comes after recent concerns about the company's bean sourcing practices.

"Our customers pay a little more for our coffee because they trust where it comes from. That trust is our entire business," said Bigbucks Coffee spokesperson Carmela Machiado. "Instead of just making a promise that it won't happen again, we built a provable and unique way to show it."

Bigbucks is rolling out three new commitments:

  • Every current and future supplier will go through an independent third-party audit to verify fair-trade compliance before signing or renewing any contract.
  • Any supplier who doesn't pass will get the chance to fix the problem or loses their contract.
  • A public dashboard, updated every quarter, will enable customers, media, and investors see exactly where Bigbucks' beans come from and check the audit results for themselves.

"We'd rather be held accountable than just ask people to trust us," Machiado said. "Our dashboard will show the truth."

Bigbucks' changes align with larger fair-trade initiatives in the coffee industry. Fairtrade International, the global nonprofit that sets fair-trade standards for coffee, recently launched a new strategy focused on farmer resilience, supply chain transparency, and fair pricing worldwide. Fairtrade is also raising its minimum price for washed Arabica coffee to $2.00 per pound this year, which is meant to protect farmers against rising costs and climate difficulties. Bigbucks will align its new auditing practices with these same benchmarks.

Bigbucks Coffee has committed to publishing its first compliance report by October 1, with updates continuing every quarter after that.
